On July 25, 2012 Mr Rimantas Remeika, the chancellor of the Ministry of Health of Lithuania, and Mrs Justina Januševičienė, director of ministerial department, visited Estonian eHealth Foundation. The purpose of Lithuanian delegation's visit was to learn about the functioning of eHealth Foundation, as well as financing schemes and legal background of e-health in Estonia.
Mr Remeika and Mrs Januševičienė met with Maarja Karjaherm and dr Peeter Ross from Estonian eHealth Foundation who introduced Estonian national electronic health record and demonstrated how it functions. Helen Hoyer from Estonian Health Insurance Fund made a presentation about e-prescription. Lithuania is working on several e-health projects at the moment in order to implement a national health information system in the near future. It is essential to share experience and learn from other countries' success and mistakes while developing such a large scale system.
